WITH LOCAL PLANTS IN GUADALAJARA
During our time in the studio, we learned how to play and be curious with local plants and flowers in ways that can give life to textiles with environmentally responsible processes.
I was overjoyed to be a student of Athziri (Biosis) a Mexican fashion designer and consultant in circular design and innovation and Anahí (Juyania) a Mexican slow fashion and nature dye artist and designer.
I've participated in some interesting workshops but abundant care, technique, warmth, and brilliance are present with Anahí and Athziri in ways I'll always remember—in spirit and through these material manifestations.
The experience took place at Estudio Infame, a café with space for co-working and community workshops.
Moving with a desire to connect with the earth and natural environment throughout Guadalajara,
I participated in a two-day workshop facilitated by Juyania and Biosis who focus on circular production and slow fashion.

The eco-printing process required a combination of land and ancestral connection, technique, patience, play, and trust.
Moving through the necessary learnings and steps across two days (with great anticipation) returned me to a sense of wonder and beauty with our natural world that I needed in the face of global devastation. Some of my favorite moments were:
Hearing the magic and lineage of the plants palo de brasil, cempasúchile, muicle, cosmos, pericon, and majahua.
Witnessing the unexpected colors from the plants transforming when met with water, salt, and textiles.
Having an intimate workshop experience with just one other person and sharing moments of awe.
Exploring, Cromática Natural by Athziri, a book that “promotes the importance of thinking about ourselves in relation to nature and ancestral technologies, linked to the processes of color applied to textiles, fashion and its universe of possibilities.”
